GIOVANNI "DE TONONIS" TONONI (CA. 1650 - 1713, BOLOGNA)

› BOLOGNA › VENICE ›

The son of Felice Tononi was active in Bologna, Venice and Rome. He built his instruments following various master’s models but mainly Amati's, whose model he enlarged. His work is first-class quality. Beautiful wood, neat inlays, narrow and round edge. The F-holes are cut perfectly, the scrolls are precise, and the varnish, which is usually yellow-brown or orange, is of good quality.
